Aigine CRC completed the first stage of research on clarifying and updating the lists of sacred sites in Kyrgyzstan. The goal of this stage is a rigorous analysis of the
Center’s field materials collected in 2005-2014. Further, the list of sacred sites in each region was checked with new data obtained during December 2018-March 2019 as a result of interviews and meetings with guardians and pilgrim practitioners. At the second field stage, the list will be refined and supplemented by regional working groups in all regions of the country. The work is carried out within the framework of the project “Safeguarding of Practices and Rare Rituals Related to Sacred Sites in Kyrgyzstan: Preparation of an Inventory and Safeguarding Measures”. The project is supported by the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Foundation (France). Aigine CRC is sure that sacred sites are among the main natural and cultural values of the country.
