From May 31 to June 1, 2019, the international symposium “The 1916 Uprising in Central Asia: academic integration, new approaches and knowledge”  took place in Karakol.

Askar Djumashev. The uprisings of 1916 in the lower reaches of the Amudarya: characteristic and specifics.

Abstract: In both uprisings, in Khiva and in the Amudarya part, the women’s issue was the impetus for the bloody events of 1916 in the history of the peoples of the lower reaches of the Amudarya. Participation of native women became a characteristic feature of the uprising in the right-bank of the river. In the left-bank, women did not participate in the uprising, but they became the main cause of the folk movement.
