From May 31 to June 1, 2019, the international symposium “The 1916 Uprising in Central Asia: academic integration, new approaches and knowledge”  took place in Karakol.

Panel 1: Historiography and sources for study of the uprising

Alexander Tiperov. Tragic events of 1916 in western part of Chui valley in Kyrgyzstan.

Abstract: The reason for the uprising was the imperial decree of June 25, 1916, on the mobilization of the indigenous population for rear works. However, the main reason for the uprising was the increasing colonial and national oppression during the war. The events that followed the decree in the Belovodsk area of Pishpek uezd were the most tragic. There is extensive evidence from witnesses of these events, so it is possible to restore the picture of what happened there.

The uprising of the Kyrgyz people once again showed that only allying with other nations can aid in achieving a good life. And only the new government gave them this, saved them from oppression and exploitation, made the Kyrgyz people healthy, literate and cultured.
