From October 2024 to August 2025, Aigine CRC carried out a project to create a multilingual and structured digital database of traditional crafts in Kyrgyzstan, in cooperation with ICHCAP, the UNESCO Category 2 Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific region.
Field Research
Between January and June 2025, extensive field research was conducted in all seven regions of Kyrgyzstan. Regional researchers — many of whom were practicing artisans themselves — were selected to document local traditions.
They traveled all around the county, interviewed artisans, and recorded their craft processes through photos and videos. In total, over 1,700 artisans were documented.
