We present to your attention a list of books, journals, articles,
maps, and websites that provide detailed descriptions of the names of villages, rivers, mountains, and other landmarks of Kyrgyzstan. All resources are available at the National Library of the Kyrgyz Republic named after A. Osmonov. For ease of use, we have divided the collection into the following categories:
- Mountains and Glaciers
- Villages and Cities
- Bodies of Water
- Lands
Additionally, we have highlighted sections featuring only books and, separately, only newspapers for more precise searches. For your convenience, the list includes the State Library catalog codes, in case you need access to a specific source.
The collection includes descriptions of maps depicting the territories of Kyrgyzstan from the 19th to the early 20th centuries, sourced from the National Library. It also features maps from 1989, kindly provided by Abakir Kalibekov, Professor of Astronomy at Kyrgyz National University named after J. Balasagyn. While these maps reflect some geographic names from the Soviet era, they also include indigenous names and cover border regions with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
We plan to continue updating and expanding this information over time.
