Dreams and Dreaming Traditions in Kyrgyz Culture

In Kyrgyz culture, dreams are traditionally classified into various types, known as visions and gift dreams. Dreams of revelation, in turn, are divided into dreams that convey important messages, warn of potential danger, and impart knowledge. A gift dream, on the other hand, is considered a dream that foreshadows good fortune.

Dreams can also be divided into “good” and “bad” depending on their impact on the human consciousness. A bad dream can bring suffering to a person, while a good dream makes them wake up with pleasant feelings.

According to national beliefs, visions can influence the past and future, warn of potential dangers and impending disasters. Depending on the significance of each individual, there is a belief that visions can be sent through dreams to the person themselves, their loved ones, and even to all of humanity.

The Aigine CRC team has published a collection of traditional Kyrgyz dreams interpretations. The interpretations of dreams were collected, discussed, and approved by experts in the field of traditional knowledge.
