National Guidelines for the Safeguarding of Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Practices and Rituals

The Aigine CRC is pleased to announce the publication of the National Guidelines for the Safeguarding of Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Practices and Rituals.

The Guidelines are authored by Gulnara Aitpaeva and Aizharkyn Kozhobekova, UNESCO National Experts on the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Reviewers: Sabira Soltongeldieva – Executive Secretary of the National Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic for UNESCO and Aibek Samakov – UNESCO expert on the Convention for the Safeguarding of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.

Cholponai Usubalieva-Grishchuk – the compiler and designer.

Members of the communities of sacred sites actively participated in the development of the structure and design of the book.

The book consists of 3 parts:

Part 1. Sacred sites and pilgrimage practices and rituals

Part 11. Pilgrimage to sacred places

Part 111. Challenges, risks and measures for the Safeguarding of sacred sites

The book was prepared and published in the framework of the project “Safeguarding practices and rare rituals related to sacred sites of Kyrgyzstan: preparation of inventory and conservation measures”, supported by the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Fund.
