Last week, our team was actively engaged in field research as part of the creation of a database on Kyrgyzstan’s traditional crafts.
📍 Ton District, Issyk-Kul Region:
Researcher Akylbek Kanybek uulu led an important effort to document the region’s craft traditions. Meetings and interviews were conducted with artisans representing various fields of traditional craftsmanship.
📍 Alai-Kuu, Kara-Kulja District, Osh Region:
In this picturesque valley, research continues under the leadership of designer and researcher Mirrahim Toktogul (Oposh). Within just the first week, valuable data was documented on rare craft techniques and artisans whose work holds exceptional cultural significance.
🌀 Work on the ICH Database:
As part of the project “Digital Journey into the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Kyrgyz Republic,” the inventory of ICH elements is ongoing. Communities have already documented over 2,300 elements across nine domains. The current phase involves structuring and verifying the data before integrating it into the digital platform. Meanwhile, artists have begun working on the symbolic visualization of the future website, designing signs and symbols that reflect the essence of each domain within the national inventory.
