🏞️ Local Research: In early October, the Aigine CRC team conducted training sessions for students in the villages of Kyzyl-Bulak, Uchkun, and Okhna in Kadamjay District, Batken Region. These training sessions were held as part of the “Great Mountains” project, where students are tasked with conducting research in their villages on topics such as a) legends, b) medicinal herbs, c) petroglyphs, d) notable women, e) Indigenous Kyrgyzstan, and f) the year 1916. In addition to research, the students organized a community cleanup in the mountains. We received videos of this cleanup from students in the villages of Kyzyl-Bulak and Okhna. The project’s final event will take place in early November.

👩🏻‍💻 Work Meeting: Researchers at the Aigine CRC are preparing a publication on traditional Central Asian martial arts as expressions of intangible cultural heritage. We are exploring the knowledge and practices of games and competitions such as Kök Börü, Alysh, and Oodarysh. To deepen our understanding and analysis of the traditional aspects of these practices, we are conducting a series of consultations with experts. On October 19, consultations were held with Aigine expert and partner Temirbek Toktogaziev. Temirbek Agha shared his insights and knowledge about Kyrgyz traditional games and offered an in-depth account of how these games are reflected in the history and culture of Kyrgyzstan.

🎶 Concert Preparation: The team of the “Bringing the Konur Un to the Sound of the Kyrgyz Orchestra” project—musicians Cholpon Turumbaeva, Rysbek Junushov, and Zalina—are actively preparing to showcase the results of their work. They, along with their students, will perform on reconstructed komuz and kyl-kyyak instruments, adding the distinct traditional “konur” sound to the orchestra. The concert is set for November.
