Work Trips: On August 6th, the Aigine Cultural Research Center team began a field survey of the Sarmishsay archaeological complex, located near the city of Navoi in Uzbekistan. The complex is renowned for its fascinating petroglyph scenes. Ramazan Yegamov, the director of the Sarmishsay Park, discussed the significance and some rare scenes depicted on the petroglyphs at an event organized by the Aigine Cultural Research Center in July this year, held at Issyk-Kul. The Aigine team plans to stay in Navoi until August 11th to conduct a more detailed study of the complex and document their interpretations.

Work Meetings: On August 4th, the Aigine Cultural Research Center team met with Nazar Tölönbayev, a representative from the remote mountain village of Köndük in the Kara-Kulja district. Nazar aba has been collaborating with the Aigine team since 2019. During the meeting, they discussed the names of villages, rivers, and mountains located in the Kara-Kulja district. These meetings and studies are part of the “Tüpki Kyrgyzstan” (Indigenous Kyrgyzstan) initiative. The aim of this initiative is to collect interpretations of the names of local villages, rivers, and mountains to gain a deeper understanding of each region’s characteristics. We also strive to preserve and transmit the knowledge embedded in oral traditions through toponymy for future generations.
