Within the framework of the project “Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) and the Transformation of Cultural Codes”, Aigine CRC supported the initiative of the Uyghur diaspora living in the city of Karakol to document elements of their cultural heritage.
This initiative aims to contribute to the cultural relay “Karakol – Commonwealth Capital of Culture” by documenting and preserving the cultural heritage of various ethnic groups living in Karakol. In 2022, the city of Karakol took over the cultural baton from Dushanbe.
The initiative is being implemented by Professor of Issyk-Kul State University, Doctor of Philology Saifulla Abdullaev together with director Mirlan Abdulaev. Connoisseurs of cultural heritage will create a documentary about the Uighur folk dance Sama. At the moment, the etymology of the name of the dance, its historical and ritual meanings among the inhabitants of the city are almost lost. The participants of the initiative, together with representatives of the young generation of Karakol people, set the task of recreating the Sama dance in one of its historical versions, document the process of reconstruction and enter into the ICH database.
The initiative is led by its author Saifulla Abdullayev.
