On May 7 the global reflection on the listing mechanisms under the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage has started. The reflection activities are organized by The Secretariat of the 2003 Convention. The reflection is being organized as a category VI expert meeting. According to UNESCO terminology, this means that the experts participate in a private capacity and not as representatives of any particular government or organization.
On May 18, the breakouts groups met to reflect in depth on the issues identified and propose alternative approaches for improving the listing system. One of the key concerns is how to ensure real and full participation of cultural communicates.
