{"id":470,"date":"2016-07-11T11:00:22","date_gmt":"2016-07-11T11:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/old.aigine.kg\/external-reports-on-bride-kidnapping-assessed-by-local-experts\/"},"modified":"2019-12-26T11:50:44","modified_gmt":"2019-12-26T11:50:44","slug":"external-reports-on-bride-kidnapping-assessed-by-local-experts-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/aigine.kg\/?p=470&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"External reports on bride kidnapping assessed by local experts."},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times; font-size: 12pt;\">On 29 January 2016 there was a meeting titled \u201cExternal reports on bride kidnapping assessed by local experts\u201d which took place at the Aigine Cultural Research Center.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times; font-size: 12pt;\">The reports were summarized by Christopher Edling, author and Fulbright fellow.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times; font-size: 12pt;\">The following three questions were posed for discussion: 1) Is bride kidnapping a problem? 2) Is it a tradition, or not? 3) Why and in which historical, cultural, social contexts does this phenomenon get replicated over and over again?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times; font-size: 12pt;\">Participants of the meeting expressed their viewpoints that bride kidnapping is one of the problems which is faced by a poor, economically underdeveloped and weak state. This opinion was partly based on personal observation and years-long research done by Doctor Russell Kleinbach, as well as, on opinions of individuals who are driven by traditional concepts and values. It is not a tradition, but an ambivalent custom (arsar adat) which can have different meaning in different contexts.
