Regional specifics of the uprising<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Pavel Dyatlenko: Turkestan diocesan statements as a little-studied source for the uprising of 1916.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Abstract: The Turkestan Diocesan Gazette is the official publication of the Turkestan and Tashkent Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, which was published in the city of Verny (now Almaty) twice per month from 1906 to 1918. In some issues of this magazine from the second half of 1916 to the beginning of 1917, a number of interesting materials were published, written by Orthodox priests about the tragic events of 1916 or related to the activities of the Orthodox Church in helping victims of the conflict.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">In Soviet times, this journal was not included in the domain of historical sources used by researchers. The materials of the journal are noticeably different from government sources and memories of the participants of the uprising, since their authors witnessed the events that took place, but were not active participants. In addition, the priests were in contact with different communities, were more educated than the majority of the population and had a broader perspective.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">We believe that the Turkestan diocesan statements are an important, little-studied and fairly objective historical source.
