On 13 March 2022 Cholponai UG represented as a guest speaker and delivered a presentation on Safeguarding of Practices and Rare Rituals Related to Sacred Sites in Kyrgyzstan implemented in 2018-2020 with the support of the International Assistance program of the UNESCO ICH Fund. Aigine CRC’s project was selected as one of the best examples of community-based inventorying of ICH.
The presentation touched upon the concept of pilgrimage practices and rituals, decades-long history of Aigine CRC’s research on sacred sites, current risks and challenges, need for and development of safeguarding measures for pilgrimage practices and sacred sites. Project design and its implementation alongside with community members and preparation of project results with ICH communities was stressed upon. Cholponai UG also talked about the follow up activities and steps to ensure the project’s sustainability.
The presentation took place within the framework of an online workshop on the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage organized by ICCROM/Sharjah at the request of the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Culture. The workshop is prepared and delivered by Cécile Duvelle and Séverine Cachat, UNESCO facilitators and consultants.
