Regulations of the contest, dedicated to the memory of the poet, singer, melodist, People’s Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic Elmirbek Imanaliev and aimed at popularizing his work, as well as bringing it to the international level.

The competition will be held on December 23, 2021, at 09:00 in the concert hall of KTRK. The competition is open to all musicians and students of music schools from 15 to 35 years old, who sing the works of Elmirbek Imanaliev to the accompaniment of national musical instruments, as well as those who want to perform in a modern way. In addition, there was a competition for the best performance of Elmirbek Imanaliev’s song “Aruuzatym” in Russian and English.

The main purpose of this competition is to pass on the work of Elmirbek Imanaliev to the younger generation and preserve it forever. In the future, we are considering holding a biennial Elmirbek Imanaliev Prize and a special competition among performers.

Competition process and requirements

Contestants must perform the following works of Elmirbek Imanaliev accompanied by musical instruments or national instrument:

Contest 1 In English and Russian – “Aruuzatym”

Contest 2 In the Kyrgyz language – based on the author’s works of Elmirbek Imanaliev

Conditions for determining the winner

Contest 1

As there is only one song contest, the competition will be held in one round, and the judges will determine the winner based on the requirements of the special regulations.

The contestant must perform the song “Aruuzatym” in English or Russian (accompanied by any instrument, ensemble or orchestra, as well as a pop backing track). Russian and English translations of the text of the work are attached to the provision.

Basic evaluation requirements:

  • Accurate and correct singing in English and Russian
  • Preservation of the style of performance of the work;
  • Originality of the work;
  • Performing skills;
  • Soundness of voice;
  • Professional use of musical instruments (breathing, diction, phrasing, instrumental accompaniment);
  • Original arrangement or orchestration;
  • Stage presence;

Based on the above requirements, those who performed Elmirbek Imanaliev’s song “Aruuzatym” in English will be awarded 1-2-3 prizes, and those who performed in Russian will be awarded 1-2-3 separate prizes.

Contest 2

In the Kyrgyz language – based on the author’s works of Elmirbek Imanaliev

The сontest is held in 2 rounds:

Round 1:

Performers must perform any of Elmirbek Imanaliev’s works on the list, accompanied by komuz. He must play komuz himself. Several criteria are taken into account, starting with the performer’s general musical ability, performance skills, the combination of instrument and sound, and the timbre of the voice. In addition to komuz, accordion, a new pop arrangement or ensemble, and an orchestra may perform. Only, if any of these performers made it to the second round, according to the rules, they will have to sing from Elmirbek’s large-scale works. From the total number of participants, the jury will select the best performers and send them to the second round.

Round 2:

All performers selected in the first round must perform two of Elmirbek’s works. Performers who wish to perform both works from their larger works are allowed. And if one of these two works is a melodic song in the form of a couplet, then the second work must be a voluminous work. (Examples: Terme, sermons, voluminous love and dream songs, address, dedication or mourning songs). In this round, prizes will be awarded on the basis of the best performers who have performed two works at the highest level and meet all the requirements.

In the event of a dispute between the judges or a tie between the two executors, the final decision shall be made by the chairman, taking into account the fact that the chairman of the jury has two votes. As the jury is made up of top experts in all fields, their final decision will not be reconsidered.

  • In addition to the above prizes, the best performers will be awarded with special incentive prizes and 3,000 (three thousand) soms
